June 23, 2016, 2016 Buffalo, NY … Shakespeare in Delaware Park (SDP) will be cutting the ribbon and debuting their brand new stage TONIGHT on the opening night of their 41st season of free professional outdoor theater.  This summer season will celebrate the success of their 1.2 million dollar capital campaign for the new stage.  The ribbon cutting for the new stage will take place at 7:15pm right before the actors take their places for the evening’s performance of THE WINTER’S TALE which will begin at 7:30pm

It is interesting to note that THE WINTER’S TALE was SDP’s very first production in 1976 and will now be the first production on the brand new stage in 2016!  Founder and Artistic Director Saul Elkin directs, Matt Witten, Patrick Moltane, Jenn Stafford, Lisa Vitrano and Tom Loughlin in this production known as one of Shakespeare’s late romances.  The crowd pleasing THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, will be the second offering of the summer featuring Chris Hatch, Bonnie Jean Taylor, Rolando Gomez and Norm Sham directed by Steve Vaughan. The courtship of Petruchio and Kate hits the stage on July 28th.

Shakespeare in Delaware Park reaches over 40,000 audience members each season and is excited to be celebrating 41 incredible years of high-quality professional theatre.  SDP is proud to remain as one of the largest FREE outdoor Shakespeare festivals in the county.  THE WINTER’S TALE runs June 23rd – July 17th with TAMING OF THE SHREW on stage July 28th –August 21st.  Performances are held every evening (except Mondays) at 7:30 p.m.  Shows take place on Shakespeare Hill in Delaware Park, next to Hoyt Lake behind the Rose Garden, off Lincoln Parkway near the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
